STAGLIN ONE MIND CENTER FOR COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE
RESEARCH CORE
Serving the UCLA Community
The Staglin Center for Cognitive Neuroscience offers advanced MRI research infrastructure and an experienced team of imaging and computing professionals to help facilitate cutting edge neuroscience research and data analysis.
SIEMENS 3T MAGNETOM PRISMA
The Staglin Center for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN) is home to one of the premier research scanners available. The Siemens Prisma comes equipped with a 60cm bore, max gradient amplitude of 80 mT/m and slew rate of 200 T/m/s.
SEQUENCES AND COILS
CCN is equipped with Siemens 20, 32, and 64 Channel head coils. Standout sequences include full CMRR multi band package, Siemens simultaneous multi slice with physio logging, 3D multi-delay pCASL, T1 and T2 structural with navigator technology, multi shell, multi band diffusion, MEGAPRESS and HERMES multi voxel spectroscopy.
QUALITY CONTROL
Staglin runs a daily stability check via the Siemens Service Platform to check signal intensity and drift. A weekly QA protocol and a more in-depth monthly routine are also acquired for advanced analysis. Please see below for QA metrics.
COMPUTING INFRASTRUCTURE AND SUPPORT
CCN offers free data storage for up to 5 years and Hoffman2 cloud computing support. Please check upcoming events for workshops on Hoffman2 Computing, Intro to Python and more.
MULTIMODAL AND PERIPHERAL EQUIPMENT
CCN is equipped with MR compatible EEG and Ultrasound devices. MRI peripherals include Eyelink 1000 in-bore eye tracking system, BOLD screen stimulus projection with external monitor, Optoacoustic Active Noise Cancelling headphones, Current Designs response devices, and Siemens bluetooth physiological recording devices.
SCAN SIMULATOR AND TESTING ROOM
CCN has a scan simulator available in order for research to test potential subjects for anxiety and/or claustrophobia. Please reach out to CCN tech for calendar access. The testing room is available for use before or after a paid scan is scheduled through the official CCN scheduling system. Please limit your testing room time to 30min.

MRI Stability and Performance Metrics
SIGNAL TO FLUCTUATION NOISE
The mean across the ROI of the signal image divided by the temporal fluctuation image
MEAN GHOST PERCENTAGE
The ghost metrics are calculated for each volume by taking a dilated mask ("original mask") of the data, and shifting it by N/2 voxels in the appropriate axis to create a "ghost mask". The mean intensities of those voxels in the original mask and not in the ghost mask ("meanSignal") and of voxels in the ghost mask and not in the original mask ("meanGhost") are calculated.
RADIUS OF DECORRELATION (RDC)
A measure of the size of the ROI at which statistical independence of voxels is lost.
